Ask the Dust is a 2006 American-German enchanting dramatization film based on the book Ask the Dust by John Fante. The movie was written and directed by Robert Towne. Tom Cruise (with Paula Wagner and also Cruise/Wagner Productions) worked as among the movie s producers. The film was launched on a limited basis on March 17, 2006, and was become part of the 28th Moscow International Film Celebration. It was filmed nearly entirely in South Africa with making use of stages to portray Los Angeles.
During the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference, Tony Vinciquerra, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures, was asked if the film industry will experience further consolidation.
I think that the traditional medium has reached television and film its highlight and the new growth area will be the game business, and who would be better positioned for this business than Sony?
I believe that there will be a certain consolidation in this area. Probably there will be a little more on our side. I think it s probably too many film studios and that it may become one or two in the next five to ten years.
But I mean, the next area of consolidation will be the game industry.
The upswing of the gaming industry caused by the Covid-19 pandemic has already led to a significant increase in mergers and acquisitions.
According to a recent study by Investgame, the value of the mergers and acquisitions in the game industry over 2020 versus $ 22 billion, including the sales of Zenimax to Microsoft and Codemasters on Electronic Arts, which is the highest amount since 2016. The main acquisuers 2020 were Tencent, Embracer Group, Stillfront and Zynga.
Video games have overflowed many industries affected by the Pandemic, so public and private investors have started to target the industry as a supposedly secure investment.
On the annual results of the company in April, Sony himself declared that in the current financial year (ends in March 2022), aggressive invests in its First Party Games Studios and will also invite partnerships with external games developers for exclusive games.
Sony partnerships with the new studio of former Stadia Games-boss Jade Raymond, investment in a multiplayer game of bungie veterans as well as the acquisition of the PC Portierungsfirma Nixxes and the British Studio Firesprite were announced.
In addition, another 200 million US dollars were invested in EPIC Games and thus the minority interest expanded.
We intend to increase the development staff and other internal costs compared to the previous year by about 20 billion yen [$ 184 million] as we continue to strengthen our internal software, said Sony-Council Hiroki Totoki in the conference call in April.
In order to improve our software offer, we will continue to invest in partnerships with external studios, in addition to aggressive investments in our own studios.
He added, As I have already mentioned, we want to strengthen the PlayStation platform by measures such as the recently announced partnership with Haven Entertainment, which was founded by Jade Raymond, the creator of the famous Games Assassin s Creed.
With our additional investment in Epic Games, together with the rest of the Sony Group, we will also work to improve the social and platform-related capabilities of games.
Sony has worked more closely with his film business in recent years after the filmstudio PlayStation Productions has opened the task of adapting his game franchises for television and cinema.
